Return to Seiwakai — Your Path Back

For Those Who Were Led Away

You Never Really Left.
Welcome Back.

If your path away from Seiwakai was not a decision you made — this page was written for you.

Introduction

Over the decades, Seiwakai has grown into a global family spanning more than forty countries. Occasionally, an instructor has chosen to walk a different path — and in doing so, took their students with them. Not every student knew it was happening. Not every student agreed. And not every student has found their way back.

If you trained under a Seiwakai-affiliated instructor and one day found yourself in an organisation you did not choose, or simply cut off from the connection to Japan you had worked so hard to build — we want you to know that the door has never been closed to you.
This is not about the past. It is not about blame. Whatever the circumstances that led to the separation, they are not yours to carry. Instructors make decisions. Organisations evolve. But the work you put into your training — the years on the floor, the gradings, the spirit you built — that belongs to you. And it is recognised here.

“Where-ever you go you will find a dojo — and where-ever you fly, you should join Seiwakai.”
— Seiwakai International

What Returning to Seiwakai Means

Coming back is not starting over. It is picking up where you left off — with a direct line to Japan, to the curriculum you were taught, and to the family you were always part of.

Your Rank Is Honoured

The time you spent training was real, regardless of what organisation your certificate carries. We will work with you individually to formally recognise your standing within Seiwakai and its grading framework.

No Questions, No Judgment

We are not asking for explanations or apologies. The circumstances that led to your separation are understood. This conversation begins clean — with respect for the journey you have already walked.

Direct Connection to Japan

Seiwakai’s headquarters is in Daisen, Akita, Japan, under the direct leadership of Hanshi Seiichi Fujiwara. Returning means your training, your gradings, and your certifications connect directly to that source.

JKF Gojukai Certification

As a Seiwakai member you have access to internationally recognised Japan Karatedo Federation Gojukai certification — credentials respected by national federations worldwide and accepted wherever traditional karate is practised.

Train With the Family Again

Seminars in Japan. Regional gasshuku. International events. The relationships and experiences that come with being part of a genuine worldwide network — not just a local club with an affiliation name on the wall.

A Home for Your Dojo

If you are an instructor who found yourself outside Seiwakai through no active choice of your own, we welcome you and your students back as a club. Your school belongs in this family.

A Message from Seiwakai

Families sometimes lose touch. People move, circumstances change, decisions get made in back rooms that affect those who had no seat at the table. It has happened in martial arts organisations around the world, and Seiwakai is not immune to that reality.
What we can tell you is this: we do not hold you responsible for choices that were made above you. If your instructor left and you followed — as students naturally do — you were being loyal to the person who taught you. That loyalty is a martial arts virtue, not a transgression.
But loyalty to a person and loyalty to a tradition are different things. If the tradition of authentic Goju-Ryu Karatedo, of direct lineage, of connection to Daisen and to the standards that Hanshi Fujiwara upholds — if that tradition still matters to you, then you still belong here. You always did.
Reach out. There are no forms to fill in anger and no case to make. Just a conversation, an assessment of where you are, and a path forward that respects the work you have already done.

Common Questions

Will my previous rank be recognised when I return?
In most cases, yes. Every returning member’s situation is assessed individually and with respect for the training completed. We do not ask people to start over. Where a formal re-grading is required to align with Seiwakai standards, that process is handled with dignity and full recognition of your existing level.
What if I am still training with the instructor who left?
That is entirely your decision to navigate. We are not asking you to choose between people. If you wish to maintain a personal relationship with a former instructor while also reconnecting with Seiwakai formally, we are open to that conversation. Every situation is different and we approach each one accordingly.
Can I bring my whole club back?
Absolutely. If you are an instructor whose club was affiliated through a sensei who subsequently departed Seiwakai, you can apply for direct club affiliation. Your students’ gradings and memberships can be brought into alignment with Seiwakai’s framework, and your school becomes a recognised Seiwakai dojo in its own right.
How long does the process take?
Initial contact is simply a conversation — it can happen as quickly as you choose to reach out. Formal affiliation and rank recognition timelines depend on individual circumstances, but we aim to make the path forward clear and straightforward from the very first exchange.
Is there a cost to return?
Standard Seiwakai membership and affiliation fees apply, as they do for all members. These are discussed transparently during the process. There are no penalties, back-fees, or costs associated with the period you were outside the organisation.
