Today’s rigorous training session took place at the Omagari Gymnasium, located directly adjacent to the Omagari Budokan. While we typically prefer the Budokan, the facility is currently serving the local community by facilitating PCR testing. Flexibility is a necessary component of martial arts, so we seamlessly adapted our practice to the gymnasium floor.

For those planning to attend future international seminars and training camps in Japan, preparation is key. The hardwood floors of the Omagari Gymnasium are notoriously brutal. I highly recommend that practitioners pack a substantial amount of premium athletic tape to protect the sensitive soles of their feet. Enduring multiple days of intensive Gōjū-Ryū practice requires taking care of your foundation.

Fortunately, being prepared pays off. I arrived with enough tape to comfortably survive the demanding first day. It is conveniently situated just up the street from Gran Mart and the Seiwakai Honbu Dojo, making it an easy stop between sessions.

There are no photographs from today’s session, a reflection of the absolute, undivided focus required on the floor. From the opening bow in to the final bow out, every single moment was dedicated strictly to refining kihon (basics) and traditional kata.
