March 2024 SKSV Goju-Ryu Karate Club Newsletter

Dear Club Members,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic month! I want to remind you that after next week, we will have a 2-week training break, as indicated in our club calendar. Here are a few important updates for our club:

Calendar Items:

  • San Mateo Karate Tournament: We have an upcoming local competition soon. You can find the details and registration information in our Google Calendar. Unfortunately, I will not be attending the San Mateo tournament, as I’ll still be in Calgary with Fujiwara Shihan and Vassie Shihan for the Seiwakai Canada Summit and Seminar.
  • Seiwakai Canada Summit and Seminar: If you are still interested in attending the Seiwakai Canada Summit and Seminar on Friday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 5th, please let me know as soon as possible.
  • Seiwakai Japan Gasshuku and JKF Gojukai Taikai: Looking a little further along into the summer, we have our August training in Northern Japan (week one) and Okinawa (week two). You can find more information on the club calendar.
  • Last Day and First Days of Session Training: We will update the club calendar as well; however, in the meantime, the dates for the Spring and Summer sessions are:
    • Winter Mondays and WednesdaysJanuary 8th through March 20th. There is no training on March 25th, March 27th, April 1st, or April 3rd.
    • Spring Mondays and WednesdaysApril 8th through June 7th. (No class on May 10th or May 27th).
      • The first week of June is our next club grading (Big hint – see your club guide!)
    • Summer Mondays and WednesdaysJune 17th through August 9th. (No class on June 19th, July 4th, August 5th, and August 7th).

Seiwakai Karate Northern California Seminar:

Karate group

Karate is for everyone

Sanjit Manda Sensei (Tri-Valley Karate Seiwakai Pleasanton) and I have invited Vassie Naidoo Shihan and his club to Northern California for the weekend of June 21st, 22nd and 23rd. We’ll have more information coming soon.

Class and Training:

  • Training Registration: Hopefully, by now, everyone has seen the club calendar posted on the club’s “Schedule” link. This includes the registration links for training, and I’m updating it with future events as they come along.
  • Zoom Training: Our ZOOM channel is password-protected. Please ask about access if you are registered for training but cannot make it to class. If you do attend online, please wear your dōgi (道着)!
  • Club Guide: If you’re new to the group, welcome! We do have a Club Guide available; however, it is not publicly linked here on the website. Please send a message if you do not already have the Microsoft Drive link or if you need it again.

As always, if you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out. Let’s continue to train hard, support each other, and grow as a karate community!

Best regards,

Johnpaul
